To be fair, it happened last season or so and the team then only got a fine also. Not so much a different rule for Liverpool, but a different rule for West Ham, so it seems....
Bit pointless fining them 200 grand though. Won't touch the sides.

The EFL said it "wasn't appropriate" to expel Liverpool from the competition because of "mitigating factors".

If you compare this fine to Barca’s €300 fine for tapping up then it’s harsh for an admin error to be fair.

Sunderland also got a fine 5 years ago for fielding an ineligible player in the League Cup and four league games.
We were forced to replay a match we won for fielding our own player for a couple of minutes in extra time.
Sounds fair.

Different case altogether. They had him registered but clearance hadn't been sorted.
The fucking stupid cunt for us had already played in the competition. Both him and Mackrell should have been sacked for that.

I saw Rio, Frank Jr and Manny play in the FA Youth Cup together and Manny was by far the standout player. I always felt he was very harshly treated by the club and was hung out to dry. Waste of a talent who drifted out of the game. The club should have backed him and helped him in my opinion. My take was yes, he should have known he had played for Gillingham in an earlier round whilst on loan but surely Gillingham would have got permission off the club to field him. Therefore, I assume it was ultimately Harry's decision to allow him to play and therefore he was as much to blame if not more so than Manny. The club also should have admin that is all over that sort of thing. I really felt for him and though Harry was a bit of c**t about it. Went on to prove himself a massive c**t from one club to the next. Still the public love him but I have my reservations.

was such a great night beating villa in the first game, that made it so much more painful when the news emerged that we may have to replay it. shit like that can only happen to us
